Zakinthos – Greek island

With the third Greek island, as for the size, is Zakinthos. It belongs to the archipelago of the Ionian islands on the Ionian sea and at the same time it is put to the west of the Peloponnese. The name of this island derives from the name of the mythological Dardanusa son which was kind of a king of Arcadia. The surface area of this region amounts to about four hundred square kilometres and there about forty thousand inhabitants are. In the majority they apart from the extremely developed tourism are also dealing with the fishery, the cultivation of cereal crops, fruit trees and the like

It is a principal city and a postage how it is already obvious, also Zakinthos. Very Homer already claimed that this island had been included before in a state of Odysseus. For the Middle Ages it was under the power of Genoa, the Venetian Republic. Next in years it was 1800-1807 left with part of the Republic of Seven Islands.

First of all Laganas which is extremely is among main attractions of the Zakinthos island with party and opened city. Directly it is being hit by hordes of Englishmen year annually. Here also a biggest and most beautiful beach is on an island. Also a possibility of diving and hiring appliances exists aqueous. In the centre which is being pulled in length of one main street, numerous bars, clubs and taverns are located. Among them they are most popular: Rescue, Coctails&Dreams and BadBoys. Moreover it is possible also to eat at Mcdonald, Subway whether KFC. Laganas is recommended young people which adore themselves first of all to entertain.

Amongst numerous persons which come from Zakinthos they are among others Dionisios Solomos which wrote “the Ode to the freedom”, for which the part of words was included to the current national anthem of Greece, determined with name of “the Hymn to the freedom”. Moreover an Italian writer, given birth on Zakinthos Ugo Foscolo and Andreas Kalvos, the Greek writer one from best at the 19th century are recommended also.
